City of Fountains
Bern has well over 100 fountains.
Eleven still feature the original statues with their allegorical figures.
These fountains dating from the 16th century:
– Justice Fountain (Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen),
– Ogre Fountain (Kindlifresserbrunnen),
– Zähringen Fountain (Zähringerbrunnen)
and others, bear testimony to the wealth of the bourgeoisie at that time.
